I’m frequently asked what I consider to be the best cardiovascular exercise.
Let’s start with a story. Years ago, one of my clients decided to exercise at home in addition attending Keep The Beat Wellness. They purchased an Air Dyne bike because that was the most difficult piece of equipment for them to use at Keep The Beat Wellness. After a month had past, I asked them “how is the bike coming along at home”? Their response was “I haven’t been on it”. “Why”? I asked. “Well I really hate the bike”.
When I asked them why they purchased a bike they indicated they weren’t really sure, but they knew it was a difficult workout for them. They even put the bike in their bedroom to remind them they needed to use it. Obviously, the bike in the bedroom idea wasn’t working for them!
When deciding where to start with an exercise program you intend to do on your own, you should decide on something you enjoy doing, otherwise you’re likely to be unsuccessful. If you don’t have an accountability partner it’s easy to ignore the option to exercise. Your heart doesn’t know if you are walking, swimming or riding a bike, it just works as hard as you do. The more movement of the body the harder the heart has to work to supply the muscles with the necessary oxygen.
