Who Me, Cardiac Rehab?

“I can certainly walk on my own.”

“My Doctor is making me come.”

“Why do I need this program?”

I have heard these statements so often. Many people think after a heart event that they do not need Cardiac Rehab. Benefits are not only physical but emotional support as well.

It reminds me of a woman many years ago that started our Cardiac Rehab program. She was 40, had a heart attack and an angioplasty. She truly did not want to be in Cardiac Rehab, she figured she was young she would just bounce back quickly. Her doctor insisted she attend. Well, she found out how much out of shape she was, how poorly she was eating, and the high amount of stress she had in her life. We addressed her eating, stress level and put her in the best shape of her life. Every time she was at the hospital for a test she made a point to stop and say hi to us. She thanked us every time we saw her for improving her life.

Cardiac Rehab is not just exercise, it’s emotional support, questions answered, total lifestyle changes so that the person has the best chance of reducing the progression of heart disease. Try it you’ll like it!
